Questions to ask your healthcare provider.

questions-to-ask-your-healthcare-smallWe have all been there. You have your doctor’s appointment scheduled. You have a mental checklist about what you want to talk about when you arrive, but when the moment comes you forget. Before long the appointment is over and by the time you remember you are being discharged, or maybe even in the car on your way home. Now you are in the same spot you were in before. You have a list of unanswered questions.

Sometimes things just happen so fast. After those long waits in the lobby, and that seemingly fast appointment your needs tend to get lost in the shuffle. If there is one thing I want you to take away from this article, it is this; YOU are the priority. It is our job to not only help you get better, but to assist you in understanding the process.

Your questions matter to me. I want to do what I can to make sure you get the answers you need. The best advice I can give is really quite simple. If you have questions write them down, and remember there are no “silly or dumb questions” .

Sometimes remembering isn’t the problem. Sometimes it is simply coming up with the right questions to get the answers that you need. I picked up the Dec/January 2013 (VOL 19, No. 6) issue of Arthritis magazine. They often have a good article or two, but I turned to the back page and I found something that may help you. It is a list of questions to ask your Healthcare provider. It is not by any means a comprehensive list for all ailments or afflictions. But it is a good starting point. Give it a read. I am sure there is a question in here that is perfect for you.
